Research Grok bots, compared
Most research bots here are monitors: something to watch a few sources, notice what changed, and report back. The declared connections are narrow and telling — news feeds, video, and social — which is exactly what a watcher needs.

What the numbers say
- 247
- listed research bots, by 231 different builders - 10% of the directory.
- 13 of 247
- publish install counts on their own source listing. Any ranking in this category can only order those.
- 7 of 247
- declare a tool connection. An undeclared connection is unknown, not absent. Most declared: hacker-news, youtube, grok, grok-bot, x, firecrawl.
- 44
- added in the last seven days - this category is still filling up.
The shortlist, by published installs
Ordered by the install count each bot's own source listing publishes - the only outcome measure available, and one that only 13 of 247 listings here provide. It is a ranking of the documented, not of the best.

How we picked
- Listings are checked against their own public x.ai page and re-checked daily.
- Most listings in this category link the public post where the builder introduced or used the bot, so you can see it doing the job before you open it.
- The shortlist is ordered by published install counts; the newest-first list is chronological.
Watch, then report
The pattern that works in this category is a bot pointed at a small number of sources with a clear instruction about what counts as news. Where research bots declare connections, they point at feeds and video and social platforms — inputs that change on their own, which is what makes a monitor worth running.
The pattern that fails is a bot asked to 'research' a topic with no sources named. It will produce something confident and unsourced. Name the sources, name what matters, and name where the output goes.
Use the source links
Most research listings carry the public post where the builder demonstrated the bot. That is the most useful thing on the page: you can see the actual output, the actual inputs, and the tone of what it produces before you spend a minute opening it.
It also tells you who is behind the bot. A monitor built by someone who runs it themselves for a specific beat tends to have sharper instructions than one assembled from a template — and the source post usually shows which you are looking at.

Questions
What is the difference between a research bot and a normal chat prompt?
Structure. A research bot fixes the sources, the schedule, and the shape of the report so you get the same digest every time instead of a fresh conversation each morning.
Do I need to connect anything for a research bot to work?
Not always. Many work on what you give them plus whatever the declarations allow. Where a listing declares a feed or a platform connection, that is the builder saying the bot was built to read it.
How fresh are these listings?
Each listing is checked against its own public x.ai page and carries the date it was last verified. A listing that stops answering is delisted, not left to rot.
